In 1871, C.T. Hayden built the first structure, his homestead, where his son Carl, known as the “most important person in Arizona history,” was born in the house in 1877. This date is recognized by Tempe officials as the founding date for the people of the Tempe area. Over the ensuing years, additions and modifications were made to the adobe “hacienda,” converting it to a boarding house and finally for use as a restaurant.

Downtown Tempe has a wide variety of restaurants and is the most concentrated area with cafes and restaurants in the state. Tempe, once an agricultural settlement and once a post-agricultural suburb, is at a crossroads for the development and future of its urban core. That means there are lots of roofs to repair and install 🙂 Our favorite!
